Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a Title I school in Arizona. Many are from a Hispanic background and are excited to learn the language. Students spend the year learning Spanish through reading, writing, telling stories, singing, dancing, and playing games.

My classes are comprised of mostly 10th-12th grade students, although I do have an occasional freshman.

They take pride in their education and are thrilled at the opportunity to learn a new language. My sections are full, so students who are given the opportunity to take Spanish work very hard. I have awesome students!

My Project

My Spanish students are an easily excited bunch of students! The wireless doorbell has 52 different rings. Imagine all of the ways I can get their attention! Not to mention, I can work the different sounds into our Spanish stories! Beep beep. Vroom vroom. Ding dong. Honk honk. Ahhh ahhh. We will have sounds for cars, bikes, motorcycles, crying babies, children playing. This will be a phenomenal addition to our comprehensible input in Spanish!

Students love to participate in Spanish class stories whether they are active listeners, reading out loud or acting out the stories.

Both the doorbell and document camera will help students become more a part of class.

Unfortunately, I don't have the budget to purchase class sets of books/novels for my students. A document camera will allow me to share the copy I do have with the entire class on the overhead. This will open up the number of books that I can read to students ten fold! My students love to read and be read to so being able to see the words and follow along in Spanish will really make a difference in their language acquisition journey.
