Small Group Materials to Increase Engagement in Pre-K

My Students

My students are ages 2, 3, and 4 who qualify for the special education preschool program. They each have a diagnosed disability including developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, visual impairment, and speech-language impairment. Our class can have up to 10 students who attend the half-day program.

My school is an inner-city public elementary school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch each day.

Each student in my classroom has an IEP. My classroom needs materials to help every student access learning and increase engagement as they master their goals!

My Project

My students needs new and engaging materials to increase fine motor development and engagement with math and literacy skills. As we are into the second half of the school year, my students are looking for materials to hold their interest and it helps to have enough items where we can rotate in new materials.

We will use these materials in small group and one-on-one work stations to develop student's fine motor skills to help master their IEP goals.

The peg puzzle set, playdoh, and the magnetic maze specifically are great tools to work on fine motor and hand strength which aids int he development of prewriting skills. The magnetic board and magnets will allow us to work on literacy skills and hands-on story telling.
