A Place for Everyone: Classroom Carpets

My Students

Who says school can't be fun? In my class, I strive to make learning engaging and new for my students each day. My students use a variety of materials and resources to help ensure that they are successful.

My class is filled with adorable 2nd graders with a passion for learning and a love for school.

My students come to school ready to learn and often times don't want to leave. My school is a Title I school in West Virginia with limited resources. We have a high percentage of students on free and reduced lunch.

My students have a special place in my heart and I cannot imagine teaching anywhere else. They want to succeed. They want to please and they want to learn. They just need the means and someone to root for them to know that they can do anything. It is the best feeling in the world seeing their eyes light up when they finally get something that they have been struggling with.

My Project

With a classroom rug, my students will have a richer environment to learn. There are many hours in the day and we do varied activities both in a group and individual work. It is optimal for students to have both their desks and a rug to sit throughout the day. Students can spread out during independent reading, work on group projects, and have a comfortable spot during mini-lessons and whole group instruction. Students are often better able to concentrate when sitting at the rug for read alouds and Reading and Writing Workshop. A rug also offers an alternative seating arrangement for students that require varied learning environments.

A classroom rug creates more space to discover, community build, play, and share.

My students need a cozy carpet to invite them to learn. We spend most of our day on the floor and my students would love to have a comfy space of their own while they take on the learning challenges of second grade.
