  • Network average speeds

Network average speeds: The network average speed is the download speed (throughput) that 50% of our residential customers can expect to get during "peak time" (8pm-10pm). This is the overall network average and not what you should expect to see at your address. The speed is derived from Ofcom's UK broadband performance report (Nov 2020) and data from speed tests using test lines that monitor our network performance. These speed tests are carried out using an independent internet measurement standard that assesses the performance of our actual broadband packages, which is undertaken by Samknows. Examples are for illustrative purposes only. File sizes are indicative only and may be larger or smaller depending on content. Download times are measured in seconds and calculated using the formula file size (MB) / (download speed(Mbs) / 8) and compare KCOM’s 900Mbps Lightstream fibre to the home broadband service with Ofcom’s reported average speed for UK home broadband - FTTC connections (46.8Mbps). FAQs

    • Does having full fibre broadband actually make a difference?

Yes, we've built our network to be 100% fibre, so that you get the fastest and most reliable broadband connection possible. Unlike with copper cables, it doesn't matter how far you live from the cabinet - you'll still get a premium broadband experience. Lightstream has been designed to cope with high levels of uploads and downloads, meaning that you can say goodbye to buffering movies, webpages that take ages to load, and your connection dropping when someone else in the household goes online. It's much faster than standard broadband, and more reliable.

    • Is Lightstream full fibre broadband available in my area?
You can check the current availability of Lightstream on our rollout page, or by searching on our postcode checker. If your area doesn't show up, please check again in the near future, as we're constantly rolling out to new neighbourhoods.

    • How does switching providers work?

Switching to us from another provider is simple, and we’re with you every step of the way to ensure there’s no disruption to your service.

You'll be able to choose your installation date when you place your order with us. Once this has been confirmed, you’ll then just need to let your existing provider know that you'd like to switch, and confirm what date you want your current services to end.

You'll receive your new router through the post, and on your installation day an engineer will visit your home to connect your new services. You'll then be able to enjoy your new faster, more reliable broadband straight away

    • What if I change my mind?

We think you’ll love your new broadband, but if you change your mind after ordering, please contact us as soon as possible and let us know. If you are a new customer, you have the right to cancel your new service within 14 days after your installation date without giving any reason.

Once the cancellation period has passed, if you choose to end your service within the contract term, an early termination charge may apply. We’ll provide more details about your cancellation terms before you checkout.

    • When will my new internet connection be live?

From the date you place your order, it typically takes between 7 to 14 days for your internet to be set up while we complete your installation. It can sometimes take longer, for example if you select a later activation date, or due to the availability of our engineers.

You’ll be able to select an installation date that works best for you. On the day of your installation, an engineer will connect your new services and then leave you in peace to enjoy faster, more reliable broadband.
