Former Bargain’s Galore store on Church Street

What was a former discount furniture store on Church Street is expected to be sold off.

Cash-strapped Preston City Council is to auction off the Bargain’s Galore building at 37 Church Street to raise at least £100,000.

It has stood empty since April 2010 and the city council has been unable to let the building, which is next to The Bear’s Paw pub.

Council officers state its “poor condition has frustrated a new letting.”

The building costs the city council around £10,000 a year to keep standing.

The city council, which needs to save £3.6 million in the next three years, does not have the funds to do up the building.

You can read the full report on the city council website, which is due to be discussed at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
