The one-time use code can be used on items from the PS4, PS3, Vita and Sony Entertainment Network stores.

However, the code cannot be used on PS Plus subscriptions, Music Unlimited and video rentals.

Sony will publish the code on the PlayStation Store and Twitter later this week.

The discount code is Sony's way of apologising for the PSN outages over Christmas. PS Plus subscribers will also be given five days of the service for free.

Both PSN and Xbox Live began experiencing connectivity and functionality issues on Christmas Eve, with hackers claiming responsibility for DDoS attacks on both systems.

An 18-year-old man from Southport was arrested in connection with the hacks. He has since been released on bail.
