Frugal mom helps shoppers save more using social media
A new trend of using social media to help people save money is becoming popular across the country. A Maryland mom is using YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to post the best deals she finds.
Her platform — "Momma Likes to Save" — has thousands of followers, and she's even been featured on the "Today" show.
Tiffany Timmons knows how to find a good deal. She's a mom of three who thrives off of saving.
"A lot of those items, if you are using coupons, can literally be free or a little to no money," Timmons, the founder of "Momma Likes to Save," said. "Almost everything you need, I find a deal on."
Timmons picked up couponing and clearance shopping as a hobby after she saw a friend's couponing strategy.
"I went into the store, and I did exactly what she did, got exactly what she got, and when my total dropped at the register, I was so shocked," Timmons said.
Timmons started posting the deals she'd find from couponing and on clearance on her social media pages, "Momma Likes to Save," and her page's popularity grew. Now, hunting for deals is Timmons' full-time job.
"Over the years, I learned that the stores have marked down patterns, and when I find these things, I post them online," Timmons said. "Then when people started finding me and doing the deals that I was sharing, it encouraged me, and it really made me realize, oh my gosh, I’m really helping people."
Timmons helped people hunt down hard-to-find items during the pandemic, and she's helped people cut costs despite inflation.
"I got this from Aldi," Timmons said as she pointed to an item. "They were on clearance for $3."
Now she's helping you get a head start on your holiday shopping. She said you should start now.
"A lot of times we pay full price when we are shopping last minute and you are going to learn to shop throughout the year because the best deals happen way before the holiday hype," Timmons said.
Sharing deals to make a difference.
"My goal is just to help people save as much money as they can so they can do more of what they love with their money," Timmons said.
A few more holiday shopping tips from Timmons; make sure you shop clearance, never believe the price tag and always double-check the prices at a self-scanner or the register and see if there are any hidden markdowns.
