FAQs

Can the STEP2 be installed in the kitchen or bathroom?

Yes, we have designed the system to work at nearly any sink as long as the minimum installation requirements are met.

Do I need a plumber?

It's up to you...the STEP2 was designed to be DIY friendly.  We include the supply lines and hardware needed for a typical installation but you will need a few basic tools.  You can find our step-by-step installation videos under Support then Installation or follow the link here

I'm worried my young child will play with the pedal.  Can you disable it?

Yes, if needed, you can deactivate the foot pedal by simply placing the faucet's hand lever in the closed position.  When you need to use the pedal once again, return the hand lever to the open position.  We get this question from potential customers regularly.  However, many of our customers have families with young kids, it has never been raised as an actual issue at home.

Does the STEP2 have an amazing return policy?

Yes, we offer a 6-month no hassle return policy.  If after using the STEP system you do not absolutely love it, we will help you ship it back, and provide a full refund.  It is that simple!

Will a plumber know how to install the STEP2?

Yes, a plumbing professional should have no problem installing the STEP2.  The STEP2 uses standard fittings to connect to the water supply and existing faucet. Detailed installation instructions are included with the product.  We also offer step-by-step video instruction on our website under Support tab, then Installation.

How long does installation take?

Installation should take a couple hours for your average DIY'er.  A plumbing professional should be able to install the system in about an hour to an hour and a half.

What tools are necessary for installation?

You will need the following tools on hand.  You can also reference our installation manual here.

  • Screwdriver (Phillips)

  • Measuring Tape

  • Small Bucket

  • Power Drill & Bits(7/64", 1/4", 1/2")

  • Adjustable Crescent Wrench

  • Pliers

  • Painters Tape

  • Pencil

Can I install the STEP2 in my home?

You will want to confirm the following space requirements in the toe kick area of your cabinet and power availability.  You can find more details here.

  • 3.25" (83mm) minimum toe kick height

  • 2" (51mm) Minimum toe kick depth

  • 1 socket of a standard unswitched power outlet

Will the STEP2 work with a touch, sensor, or voice activated faucet?

In most cases the STEP2 system will connect but we do not recommend it.  The process to switch between foot pedal control and the other activations methods can be complicated.

Will the STEP2 work if the power goes out?

No, the foot pedal will not work but we have designed the system with a simply to use bypass valves so that if the power is out, you can still use the standard hand controls on your faucet.

Do I have to constantly apply pressure to the pedal to get water?

No, tap the pedal once to activate Pot Fill Mode.  The water will continuously run to fill a pot for pasta water or to fill the sink for dishes.Tap/press on the pedal again to stop water flow or it will automatically turn off after 2 minutes.

Can you still use the faucet's hand controls?

Yes, hand control mode can be activated by tapping the foot pedal twice.  This will trigger two short bursts of water confirming the system is in hand control mode.  The faucet can now be controlled with it's hand lever(s).  When ready to use the foot pedal, leave or place the hand lever(s) in the open position, and begin to press on the foot pedal as needed.

2" Toe Kick Depth

At least 2" of flat toe kick space in the overhang is required for a surface mount cabinet door.  If the cabinet doors are inset, add the door thickness to the 2" requirement for the minimum toe kick depth.

3.25" Toe Kick Height

At least 3.25" of toe kick height is required.  The spacers provided will position the pedal at the optimal height.  See Foot Pedal Adjustability below for more information.

Standard Power Outlet

You will need one socket of a standard 110/120 volt power outlet.  The socket should not be connected to a switch, like a light switch.  The outlet should be within 6 feet of the mounted control box.
