Celtic are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur youth prospect Reo Griffiths, competing with some big European clubs to secure his transfer.

That’s according to The Sun, who report that the 18-year-old has yet to sign a professional contract with Spurs, opening the door to a potential move if the young striker decides that his future does not lie with his current club.

The paper say that teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are interested in luring him away from England, joined in the race by the Hoops, who want to give him the chance of first-team football and appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

The report states that he would be available for a cut-price compensation fee, similar to the deal that enabled the club to sign Moussa Dembele on the cheap from Fulham when other, richer English clubs were vying for his signature.

18-year-old Griffiths is one of the biggest prospects currently coming through the academy at Tottenham and while he hasn’t yet made a first-team appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side he has been banging in the goals for their youth sides.

Last season he scored an impressive 27 goals in 20 U18 Premier League appearances, clearly indicating that he has outgrown that level of youth football. While the U23 side beckons if he stays at Spurs, surely exposure to first-team football at a club like Celtic would do him the world of good?

Whether the Hoops can convince him his future lies in Scotland remains to be seen, but it’s the kind of deal we’ve pulled off before, so why not now?
