Just like any big city, Liverpool poses a challenge for people looking to park their car in the city centre.

The limited space means that unless you have private car parking you will almost always have to pay - or risk getting a hefty fine. The majority of the city centre sits within the council's Inner Zone.

That means during the day you will always have to pay to park in an on-street parking bay. This rule only operates between 8am and 6pm, with drivers able to park their vehicles in these bays for free at other times.

However, you have to move your car before 8am or risk a fine. There are on-street bays spread across the city centre.

The rates for them are: 30 minutes - £1.20, 1 hour - £2.40, 1 and a half hours - £3.60, 2 hours - £4.80, 4 hours (max stay) - £6.00

What are the prices for car parks in the city centre?

The cost of parking in city centre car parks varies greatly, with the council and a number of private companies operating them. Frequently, the city centre car parks, which are not as centrally located, are the cheaper options.

Some - such as Mount Pleasant car park - offer parking for £1.20 an hour.
